Listen to the Song:
Written in the summer of 2017 by Ric Albano, the lyrics of “Come Home Now” were influenced by the life of an elder couple (who has spent over 70 years together) and the challenges they are facing during the final stage of their life.
Musically, the song’s main acoustic riff came about while trying to learn a sequence in John Cougar’s “Jack and Diane” with other instrumentation added by Bret Alexander and Ron Simasek in the studio..
Musicians
Ric Albano – vocals, acoustic guitar
Bret Alexander – electric guitars, bass, keyboards
Ron Simasek – drums
Lyrics
I will get away, I will find a way to traverse that hill by morning’s light
And they will rue the day when they tried to make me stay
Certain that I would not put up a fight
Prevailing winds dictate to those who have not walked in my old shoes
Making it hard to reconcile, to suppress the given style of which I choose, ooh oooh
If we drift away too far we may forget just who we are, come home now
And if we glide away, we may not make it back today, come home now
Honest dealings I have made, faithful through the vast decades
Never losing sight of what is real
But this turn has worn me out, cascading shades of fear and doubt
In the silence after the ordeal
Shadows of a vast din, it manifests within my seasoned mind
Fighting it back for just a while through your reassuring smile
So pure and kind, ooh ooh
If we drift away too far we may forget just where we are, come home now
And if we glide away, we may not make it back today, come home now
Stripes and stars and well used cars, and second hand, beat up guitars
The simplest moments forge the greatest memories
I have done it all with you and I don’t want our time to be through
So stay next to me, my love, each and every day
Memories of the past Junes, they always play in tune inside my head
Bringing me back for just a while and with your reassuring smile
My soul is fed, my heart is bred
And I won’t go too far, I’ll always be just where you are, you’re my home now
And though there’s not much to say, I’ll still be listening every day, you’re my home now
Cherish what is left to be until we reach the end, just you and me
We’re gonna go on our terms
So please, please, please, hang on there my sweet, we still have got some time
